Mental Health Consultation

What is Mental Health Consultation?

Mental Health Consultation provides an opportunity for professionals to reflect upon their current practice in working with young people who are experiencing mental health problems.
Mental Health Consultation:
Can occur over the phone or in person
          Can involve individuals or groups
          Can be once-off or regularly
Is not a crisis service (so you may not get an immediate response)

Who can access Mental Health Consultation?
The Mental Health Consultation program is open to all professionals in the west and north-west region of Melbourne (e.g. counsellors, youth workers, general practitioners, private practitioners, accommodation workers, drug and alcohol workers, school staff, etc.) who are working with young people aged 15-24 years.

How to access Mental Health Consultation?
If you would like to consult about a young person’s mental health, or want to know more about Mental Health Consultation, please contact Carsten Schley (Mental Health Consultation Coordinator) on 9342 3744 or Carsten.Schley@mh.org.au. You can also download this card for future reference.

Some things you might want to think about before you call:

What is my role with the young person?
          Confidentiality/privacy issues
What do I want from the consultation?
What have I found useful in previous consultations?
Who else is involved in the care of the young person?
